configuring exchange 2000 for recovery:

right click first storage group|properties|on general tab
verify that enable circular logging is cleared|ok.
right click mailbox store|properties|limits tab|at keep
deleted items type 5|keep deleted mailboxes -30|select do
not permanently delete mailboxes and items until the store
has been backed up|ok.
backing up an exchange 2000 storage group:
-----------------------------------------
at system tools click backup
open event viewer|application log|click the earliest ntbackup

-when restoring choose alternate location
-it is not an easy to use relieble program. do not use it!
-information store is at c:\program files\exchsrvr\mbddata as
default.
errors:
-u cannot copy the mbddata files to another place!
-u cannot restore the information store while exchange is
active!
-at the application log:unable to restore data because the
db is in use:no
answer yet
recovering exchange 2000 mailbox store:
--------------------------------------
-stop exchange service|rename priv1.edb, priv1.stm, make new
files the same name and restoe+mount the dbs.
-run the following command to check the databases:
eseutil /mh priv1.edb <-- checking database
pub1.edb
/p ___.edb <-- repair database
reconnecting an exchange 2000 mailbox:
-------------------------------------
from AD delete a user x, create a new same user|clear the
create exchange mailbox|finish.
right click that user|member|select domain admins.
at exchange expand| first storage group |mailbox store|right
click mailboxes|run cleanup agent
at mailboxes verify that X marked with red X| right click
username|reconnect|select a new user|ok.
test that at the outlook
recovering deleted message:

at outlook click tools|click empty deleted items.
click tools|recover deleted items.verify the item has been
recovered

-u have 20 stores *16 giga
-escutil /d =defrag db (must do a dismount before: but
dengerouse for damaged mailboxes- what it cannot fix it delets
-to connect exch 5.5 to 2000 better use X400
-smart host-move mail to a server that makes relay for u
-on smtp connector u can put quota
-to track a message:tools|message tracking (enable message
tracking)
-u can give permitions on partition M but never backup it!
-u can make 20 stores of public folders
-smtp <->esmtp =extended uses ehelo instead of helo
-at exchsvr directory :bad mail- stucked mail, queue-
outgoing mail~,pickup
mtadata:logs,res:logs to event viewer,bin:all components,dxdata:for mamail
-u cannot remove exchange without deleting the mailboxes.to reninstall
u must remove the exchsrv dir
-right click on XXX|logons u can see whos connected right now
-better put 1 transaction log per storage group & in another partition
-u can move mailbox at AD:user|exchange tasks|move mailbox
-on the server: u cannot open other user outlook if u didnt do log on to
the server. even though u have log on permitions.
-exchange server name is the server name
-to log on on a pre win 2000 u can go to properties of server at AD and c
the
pre win2000 domain name (u can change the name to native mode with no way
back)
-saving the logs helps from restore from backup during backup all logs r
deleted
-exchange need DC somewhere better not on itself
-exchsrvr dir is DB. when backing up:information store is all the database
-at outlook 2000 u can restore: mailbox stor properties: keep deleted items 7
-put a quota to stop the denail of service
-right click on group|properties|send on behalf:meens that was send by
another name
-retantion time: hold at the server messages a period of time AD|user|exchange
|delete mbox
and to restore a hard delete also:backup and at regedit:
Hkey_local_machine/software/exchange/client/options add Dword:
DumpsterAlwaysOn = 1
exmerge -utility for upgrade to import mailboxes from 5.5 to 2000
(not work for hebrow, unicode ~)
-when backup is made a log is written. after finished it restores
mail arrived from the logs
-from run:c:\exchange server setup progress.log : to view logs
-befor loading AD schema: run: regsvr32 schmmgmt.dll
errors:
-if u cannot find echange server while adding a user at a station:
check that
regional settings r hebrew or english the same as the server
-at the event viewer: exchange is not available,internal proccesing
has accured:
try to restore first the public folder and than the mailboxes.
-one station ask for kredentials when tring to open outlook but it
enters the domain ok:format the station or test if u have at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ClientProtocol for 98:

* setup not on sbs:
run:setup /forestprep : to establish the organization and prepare
the AD forest
to become a outside mail server --> ETRN (instead of pop mail)
setup /domainprep --> must run on every domain that has exchange
server
telnet localhost 119 --> check for nntp (u can setup that under iis)
+ instant messaging (port 80)
-exchange dont need hebraw but need that the global catalog will b
in Heb.
-supports only universal groups
-before restore: at the database "this database can be overwriten by
restore"
delete E00.chk (checkpoint)
