at labfiles use mtset.exe for mail test program.
run:mmc|add activx control|next|from select counter from the list
choose "system monitor control"|click "+" smtp server and categorizer
queue length|add.|and: message bytes recieved/sec|add
monitor server resource usage:

in the performance object choose processor and in select counters from
the list choose %processor time|add
than memory -pages/seconds|phisical disk- disk reads/sec+disk write/sec
shoot some mails than watch the monitor
configuring an alert:

mmc add/remove snap-in add preformance logs and alerts|right click
alerts|new alert settings name:ros alert|add processor counter
%processor time add|cheeck over limit of 65|interval 1|at action
tab select send a network message to check box.
right click at ros alert\alert|stop and save the console.
monitoring a service failures:

open notepad type: net send test5 service down
save it as c:\alert.bat
at exchange expand tools|monitoring and status|right click notification|
new|script notification at c:\alert.bat.
go to services stop smtp & wait for a message
